Every hair growth cycle involves some amount of hair loss daily. Expect to lose hair from the 10% which is in a resting phase. Thinning of hair is usually noticed when the loss is in excess of the normal hair loss pattern. These include: Alopecia areata – Affects both males and females; hair loss is rapid and the most common pattern is one or more spots of hair loss on the scalp. This is usually caused by an immunity disorder when the intrinsic white cells attack the hair follicles. Alopecia Totalis happens with complete loss of scalp hair. This is an uncommon condition.

Hereditary causes: This can result in male pattern baldness which causes 25% of men getting bald by age 30. Over and above the reason being genetic, it could also be due to testosterone the male hormone. One of the functions of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is produced by the conversion of testosterone, causes impairment or stoppage of hair growth and produces short and weak hair. Male pattern baldness is absent with men devoid of testosterone.
Skin diseases - Skin diseases can affect the scalp and cause hair loss. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis are some of the common skin diseases which cause hair loss, not just on stopping hair loss, as it seems to be the case with procerin.
Sudden illness or fever: big chunks of hair sometimes fall out after an illness or fever. This is however a temporary event.
The other common factors which can also result in hair loss include childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and getting old. There are several other reasons for hair loss other than these main ones.
Not only can you stop hair loss but your can promote re-growth too, when you follow a successful hair loss treatment program. Some of the natural means for hair loss treatment include:
1. Have plenty of vitamins A, B, C and E. These promote new hair growth. These vitamins help to provide sebum, good blood circulation to the scalp by increasing oxygen absorption and collagen.
2. Taking care of your scalp: Learn to massage your scalp regularly with herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. Some conditions of alopecia areata can be effectively treated with essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood.
3. Avoid scalp abuse - Avoid daily use of chemical shampoos and blow drying. Hair and scalp get damaged by chemical treatments such as coloring and straightening. Even daily hair wash with hot water can damage the hair and scalp as hair then turns brittle and the natural oils dry up.
4. Use of herbal care: There are some very effective options here. Use powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner. It is also a powerful anti-oxidant. It has a natural low pH. Use henna then which plays its role as a natural conditioner.
5. Bring lifestyle changes: Reduce stress, an important factor in hair loss. Do this by doing exercises and meditation. Forego Smoking: Because the nicotine from the cigarettes blocks the pathway which supplies blood to the scalp and results in reduced supply of blood. Avoid over exposure to the sun as the UV rays could damage your scalp.
